Vegan Diet Blog American friend, Terry, was the ideal candidate for a vegan diet. A former athlete he loved regaling people with his past sports achievements, and wistfully bragged about his once finely tuned physique. He did this more often than not while gobbling down large steaks, washed down with goblets of whisky. He knew he let himself go over the years, and struggled to find that once healthy young lad inside him. The more I spoke about the amazing health, and wellness benefits of veganism, the more resistant he was to change his carnivorous diet. "Impossible," he said! Terry is an advertising executive in New York City where most nights are spent entertaining clients in steak houses, and saloons. A formidable atmosphere to begin a lifestyle change. But, I planted the seed, and the seed grew. A few months later I proposed going vegan for 6 months, VBites will provide the food, and I'll provide an outstanding doctor, Dr. Joel Furhman, a good friend, and a leader in the field of nutrition. "That's crazy!" Terry said it was incomprehensible to start eating vegan because it was so at odds with his lifestyle. A few months more passed and something inside him said he was finally ready, ill-attempts at moderation had been fruitless. He was desperate to lose a significant amount of weight, drop his dangerously high cholesterol and blood pressure, and reaquaint himself with that former svelte athlete. Lastly, he knew the only way he could moderate his lifestyle was to go 100% vegan, or as he says, "All in." I asked Terry to keep a daily blog of his progress. [ This is his story ]
